Open Source Architecture

Dear all,

I am a PhD student based at the University of Salford, United Kingdom. I am currently conducting a research project on Open Source Architecture. My research focuses on the adoption of Open Source as a method to be used in architecture projects. I have designed a short questionnaire for my research and I would like to invite you to take part in this survey as I wish to understand your perspective on these issues.

Your participation in this questionnaire would be very much appreciated and your responses will be treated as strictly confidential. The survey is short and should take less than 12 minutes, and I would be happy to share the findings of my study with you once the data has been analysed.

Your answers are very important to the success of this research project. I will be extremely grateful if you could support my PhD research by also forwarding the link below to your colleagues or other members of your group.

Thank you very much for your time and consideration. Should you have any questions or if you would like assistance filling out this questionnaire, please e-mail Vivian Liang at v.w.liang@pgr.salford.ac.uk

Best Regards

Vivian

Hi Vivian,

As we so often see in game theoretical models, there are often asymmetries between one's willingness to share one's own property and one's willingness to share others' property. However, most of us don't want to think that about ourselves; we'd rather believe that we are just as open in giving as we are in taking.

To that extent I think you would get better responses if you separated and/or cordoned off (by putting in different pages) pairs of questions like:

"Allowing others to create works through modification of my own ideas"

and

"Allowing me to create works through modification of others' ideas"

…and so many of the other like pairs in this questionnaire that are sitting right next to each other. After answering the first question of the pair I'm "primed," as it were, to answer the immediately following question in a certain way that I might not have if I was given the second question in relative isolation.

Good luck with the rest of your study.

Vijay
