Video Viewpoints: Graham Harwood and Ron Kuivila
The Museum of Modern Art, New York
The Roy and Niuta Titus Theater 1
April 8, 6PM

Dismantling the architecture of virtual and actual space, Graham Harwood
(London) and Ron Kuivila (US) use web programs and sound interventions
to affect alternate versions of social history and perception.

In his interactive, community driven projects, Harwood (co-founder of
Mongrel) targets demographics that historically have less access to new
technologies. He will discuss his recent work TEXT-FM (2001), a program
enabling cellular phones to function as text messaging systems and
Uncomfortable Proximity (2000), the Tate's first net.art commission.

Ron Kuivila's music compositions and sound installations use homemade
electronics and software to alter people's aural, instrumental and
conceptual relation to sound. Kuivila's presentation will include The
Beautification of the Facsimile Zone (2000), an installation for ZKM in
Karlsruhe, Building 12 (1998), and Visitations (1999), companion
installations playing off the intrinsic historic and architectural
qualities of MASS MoCA.

Video Viewpoints provides a forum for artists to show and talk about
their latest projects. By creating a space for discussion of recent
works, the Museum provides a perspective on the evolving forms of video
and media art.
