Digital Artist Residency
Imag@nation Winter School 1997 - Artits' ResidentiaI Week Dartington
College November 2-9
Who is eligible to Apply?
Any artist living or working in the United Kingdom can apply, providing
they have some experience of working creatively with digital technology.
Imag@nation invites artists working, creatively with new technology in
any discipline to apply for a place on a week long residential programme
in the intimate rural setting of Dartington College in Devon. The aim of
the residential week is to offer participants an opportunity to research
and develop production ideas and practice, and to have a creative
dialogue with digital artists from several disciplines, including visual
arts and media, live art, music and video.
Artists' work could be realised in many forms - installations,
screen-based presentation, sited on the Net or recorded and published
electronically, performed or exhibited in physical and virtual spaces. A
level of audience interactivity/user manipulation must be integral to
the artist's working practice.
Imag@nation is a major three year project in the South West region
celebrating and exploring digital creativity. The Winter School is an
opportunity for artists to become involved in the project in advance of
Imag@nation's main commissioning and residency programme between 1998
and 2000.
Participants will have the use of a range of studios and facilities at
Dartington College, with technician support and facilitation. Full
bursaries will be awarded including comfortable accommodation, food and
travel expenses for the week. In addition to time and space for the
development of creative work without the pressures of public performance
or exhibition, workshops and presentations will take place to encourage
critical debate around evolving artistic practice audience engagement,
interactivity and context. The emphasis of the week will be on creative
exploration, experimentation and reflection.
Imag@naticn operates an Equal Opportunities Policy in all areas of its
work, including the selection of artists. Applications are welcomed from
disabled artists, young artists and people from culturally diverse
communities - these sections of society being traditionally
under-represented in mainstream arts and media.
All applicants will be assessed fairly and equally and will be
considered solely on the basis of the information in their application,
which should indicate relevant previous experience and suitability for
the Winter School programme. The selection panel will include artists
and representatives from Imag@nation's advisory group, and appropriate
officers from South West Arts and/or the Arts Council of England.
