DBS Communications Forum

Libraries for the Future (LFF) and the Association for Independent Video
and Filmmakers (AIVF) invite you to particiapte in a panel discussion on
Direct Broadcast Satellite (DBS).

This forum is the second event in a national series of Communications
Forums on public policy. The series brings together media makers,
librarians, library advocates, policy makers, funders, distributors, and
exhibitors to discuss how current and pending legislation needs to be
shaped for the benefit of local community development.

The Direct Broadcast Satellite Forum will take place from 6:00 to 9:00
pm, Friday, September 26, in Washington, D.C. at American University's
Mark Wechsler Theater, on the 3rd floor of the Mary Graydon Center.
Speakers will include Gigi Sohn from the Media Access Project, Barry
Forbes, of the Alliance for Community Media, and independent producer
and professor Pat Aufderheide from American University, other speakers
representing Federal Communications Commission, public and corporate
interests are to be confirmed.The panelists will discuss the public's
legal right to reach national TV audiences with community programming,
the impact DBS will have on educational programming and exhibitions, and
the importance of getting cross sector support to insure access for
independent media makers.
