Not to abuse the RHIZOME system- but right after I sent the last email
on ISEA and the problem of representation/inclusion - I went to work on
Leonardo Digital Reviews which I edit. We publish reviews of books,
electronic publications, events and run them in Craig Harris's monthly
Leonardo Electronic Almanac (harri067@maroon.tc.umn.edu) and on Kasey
Asberry's Leonardo Digital Reviews WWW site
(http://www-mitpress.mit.edu/Leonardo/ldr.html) and in Leonardo print
Journal (mason@mitpress.mit.edu).
We have an international review panel (members include Rudolf Arnheim to
… Simon Penny). Trouble is we can only review books/CDs/CDROMs that we
receive for review. We get review copies from the major publishers, and
we can ask someone to review events/exhibits that are announced in the
Fineart Forum, YLEM, ASCII, RHIZOME or other newsletters. But we get
very few books/catalogues to review from small presses, or in other
languages than english. The result is, if we are not careful, we are
only aware of the "english mainstream" of the electronic and new media
arts. So pretty quickly we have the same problem that Cheddie was
complaining about on ISEA's exclusiveness.
So - if there are any RHIZOME readers who know someone that has
published a book/CD/CDROM/other publication- you can send a copy to:
Leonardo Digital Reviews, 236 West Portal Ave #781. San Francisco, Ca
94127, USA and we will try and publish a review of it by a member of our
review panel. Even if the publication doesn't get reviewed, we publish
an announcement in Leonardo that we received it - so you get some
publicity. And if you would like to become a member of the review panel
(unpaid, you get to keep the reviewed item) send email to
mason@mitpress.mit.edu….yeah… think global.. act local..and make
ends meet…
