POSTMASTERS GALLERY
October 19 - November 9, 1996
PASSWORD: FERDYDURKE *
On Saturday, October 19, Postmasters Gallery will open "Password:
Ferdydurke," an exhibition of new multi-media works organized by Tamas
Banovich.
The show will include video, film and slide projections and
installations, digital projects, sound installations and other media.
The artworks all share the use of dematerialized (projected, transmitted
or electronic) images within their varied framework.
The artists included are:
BIGTWIN, NATALIE BOOKCHIN, DAVID DIXON, KEN FEINGOLD, PETER FORGACS,
PERRY HOBERMAN, JONATHAN HOROWITZ, MICHAEL JOSEPH, ERWIN REDL, THOMAS
SANDBICHLER
The show will literally begin on the street at the gallery door with the
"Ferdydurke" intercom piece, and then continue on the staircase leading
to the gallery, where Erwin Redl will install a 24 monitor digital
sculpture - one monitor on each step. Peter Forgacs - an established
multi-media artist, who currently represents Hungary at the Sao Paolo
Biennale, will exhibit an installation "Hungarian Totem" in which the
video of the pig being slaughtered is reversed, so the animal appears to
be put back together.

* FERDYDURKE is a title of a novel by Polish writer Witold Gombrowicz
(the favorite of the curator and his wife). As in the book, the title is
not meaningfully related to the exhibition's content.
