Jayne Loader will demonstrate PUBLIC SHELTER on CD-ROM for the first
time in the UK. This exclusive masterclass provides a unique insight to
the production of digital documentary.
Director of the cult classic THE ATOMIC CAFE, Jayne Loader recently
entered the field of multimedia with the sequel PUBLIC SHELTER. This
irreverent journey through the ATOMIC AGE extends the art of documentary
to the CD-ROM format. Jayne will discuss her motivations for this award
winning CD-ROM, and some of the issues and concerns to the producers and
users of multimedia products.
A dazzling multimedia debut, PUBLIC SHELTER is content-rich, loaded with
the most challenging, intriguing and absurd content ever assembled about
nuclear weapons, testing and atomic power. Extending the "found footage"
concept to CD-ROM, it contains 40 minutes of video (much of it unseen
since the 1950s), 400 photographs, 18 original songs, 12 hours of audio
and 1400 text files. Formally unique, there is no top-down interface and
no "script of God" telling the user what to think or how the information
in the disc should be experienced or organized. All the political points
are made through editing and juxtaposition.
ARRIVING FROM TEXAS, LOVEBYTES ARE PLEASED TO PRESENT JAYNE LOADER TO
SHEFFIELD'S INTERNATIONAL DOCUMENTARY FILM FESTIVAL. HIGHLY ACCLAIMED
AND INTERNATIONALLY ESTABLISHED, THIS IS AN UNMISSABLE OPPORTUNITY.
