DEAF/Wiretap 2.9

DEAF96 - Wiretap 2.9
Webbed Workspaces and Artist Programmers

Sunday, 22 September 1996, 14.00 - 17.00 hrs

The electronic networks are increasingly used as interactive, multi-user
and translocal workspaces which artists are discovering for their own
projects, as spaces for developing and elaborating projects as well as for
the presentation of their collaborative efforts.

The notions of interconnectivity, of distributed artistic work and of
collective creativity are taking on an aesthetic dimension - the fact that
these new workspaces are set up and used is itself part of the artistic
activity.

This Wiretap programme will bring together a number of artists who are
working on the construction of workspaces on the Internet, who are building
up toolboxes for net activities, and who are more generally using the Net,
and especially the World Wide Web, as their artistic environment.

Some of the participants are also represented with their projects in the
DEAF96 general exhibition, in R96 or in the WWW exhibition in the Digital
Dive where, during the first week of the festival, they will present their
projects in small workshops, collaboratively develop new projects, share
their knowhow and invite the audience to join the leagues of the on-line
data workers.

Participants will include (to be confirmed):

- Michael Century: Merz (Toronto)
- Walter van der Cruijsse, Desk.NL (Amsterdam)
- Masaki Fujihata: Global Interior (Tokyo)
- Margarete Jahrmann (Vienna)
- Stuart Rosenberg, West Bank Industries (Cologne)
