Hi, I'm Hasnul Jamal Saidon from the Faculty of Aplied & Creative Arts,
University Malaysia Sarawak.
I was supposed to present a paper (Institutional Presentation) in the
recent ISEA, but was cancelled due to financial problem. I'm currently
working as a lecturer teaching Electronic Art at the Faculty. My work as
an artist deals with the influence of the fast changing information
landscape on the notion of representation within the Malaysian
community.
Anyway, your note about the need to include more voices from the people
of colour in ISEA (especially those from the "third world" and
"developing" countries like Malaysia) is timely and much appreaciated.
J.M. Cheddie responded:
As the purpose of the text was to start a public debate. I have got
quite a bit of mail so I will try and formally respond at a later date.
CALL FOR ARTISTS:
DISPLACED DATA is organising a multi media exhibition scheduled to take
place at the Photographers Gallery, London, England in March,1997. The
exhibition is seeking to examine the diverse strategies being employed
by artists of colour to interrogate, through an innovative use of
digital technology, the ways in which journeys and movements of peoples
and culture around the world are shaping and informing contemporary
cultural relationships and interactions. In connection with this
exhibition DISPLACED DATA is seeking existing print based or interactive
CD-ROM work which explores these themes.
If you have any suitable work or know of others with suitable work
please forward the details to the address below.
