Making a Revolution
Video begins with a clean slate at a time when alternative
experimentation is the norm. The medium fits right in with performance,
conceptual, and installation art. Artists wear the hats of
revolutionaries, evolutionaries, feminists, conceptualists, and
modernists. Panelists: Martha Rosler, Steina Vasulka, DeeDee Halleck,
Bill Viola. Moderator: Su Ditta

Video Mass
Video latches onto postmodern issues of the day: appropriation, identity,
and the like. Professional production values start to dominate video
art, and some artists leave independent video for the "pot of gold" in
commercial television. Panelists: Laurie Anderson, Judith Barry, Bruce
Yonemoto, Tom Kalin. Moderator: Bill Horrigan

large-scale video installation. Biennials and thematic exhibitions begin
to feature these video works. Panelists: Paul McCarthy, Adrian Piper,
Tony Oursler, Joan Jonas. Moderator: Lynn Cooke

computer expertise. Once again video–in an evolved form–is in
revolutionary flux, now subsumed by media art. Panelists: Perry
Hoberman, Paul Miller a.k.a. DJ Spooky, Shu Lea Cheang, Mark Napier.
