RETHINKING THE AUDIENCE'S RELATION TO THE MUSEUM
REEVALUATING THE ROLE OF THE CURATOR
The Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA), Chicago, has launched the
web-based component of guest curator Joshua Decter's multimedia
Transmute exhibition. Transmute is a collection-based, interactive
project that invites the public to reinvent the installation of the
exhibition (virtual curator mode), and transform one of the artworks
(virtual artist mode).
Transmute exists as an actual show in the museum's galleries through
November 7, 1999 (where on-site computer kiosks are utilized to
facilitate interactive interfaces), and as an interactive extension at
