An Invitation
The Conference Organising Committee invite you to participate in Habitus
2000, to be held in Perth, Western Australia from September 5th to 9th
2000. The theme of the Conference, Habitus: a sense of place, reflects
the concept of space, place and the environment. Habitus is social space
apprehended through mental structures; schemes of perception, thought
and action in relation to one's environment, influenced by individual
and collective histories and experiences.
The Conference, held at the beginning of the new millennium, is designed
to examine the principles and practice of Habitus: a sense of place. The
ways in which people perceive and act in their environments will
determine the shapes of local, national and global
socio-political-economic structures and societies in the 21st Century.
Habitus is implied in all academic disciplines and in the practice of
built environment professions such as architecture and urban and
regional planning. The Conference aims to build on learning and
interaction between all disciplines.
