Monday, May 10 and Monday, May 17 at 7:00 pm.
From art museum collections to art zines, the amount of visual art
online is expanding as rapidly as the Internet itself. "The Online Art
World: A Work in Progress" is a series of two panels at The New School
to examine the current terrain of the "online art world" and imagine the
shape it might assume. On Monday, May 10 at 7 pm, the panel will address
the realities of producing and distributing art online. On Monday, May
17 at 7 pm, a panel will discuss how online art is received and
interpreted within the art world and among the public. The panels are
presented by the Vera List Center for Art and Politics and moderated and
organized by Robert Atkins.
The two panels will be webcast live through The New School's Distance
Instruction for Adult Learning (DIAL) program at www.dialnsa.edu. In
conjunction with these two live programs, DIAL will also host an online
public dialogue about art online at the same web address beginning May
10. The DIAL site is also host to an online gallery of works from the
New Schools collection of over 1000 contemporary art works, as well as
its 1997 Art Tour of major European exhibitions (the Venice Biennale,
Documenta, and Sculpture: Projects in Munster). To participate in the
online forums, point your browser to http://www.dialnsa.edu and click on
"Public Events."
