Where is the art?

As a serious artist looking for ways to use cyberspace as a medium, I
have searched high and low on the net for a place to discuss the future
of art as it relates to the digital universe. I am, of course, sorely
disappointed. When I was introduced to RHIZOME, I had hoped that this
would be the place. I subscribed to the RAW version, hoping to miss
nothing important.

Nothing important is what I got.

In the three days that I have been a subscriber I have found very little
to do with art being discussed. I may as well go to the chat rooms at
aol to meet intelligent people. I suspect that the organizers of RHIZOME
had something else in mind when they created this list.

From this point on I will say nothing else on the subject and will
attempt to contribute thoughts as they relate to the arts and art media.
It is the least that I can do. If there is anyone out there who can
offer me some light at the beginning of the tunnel or an alternate
source of information please respond.

Where is the art?

sigh.

have you tried searching or browsing on the RHIZOME site? there are a lot of
interesting texts in there. try going to http://www.rhizome.org/fresh and
clicking on the links in the Xref section.

be patient with RAW. the conversation on RAW is multi-threaded. the kinds of
posts you're looking for do come through, but they're intermixed with lots of
other stuff. if the "noise" is too much for you, try the DIGEST.

you might also consider reorienting your expectations. we did, as you suggest,
have something else in mind when we started this, but i for one am glad it's
turned into something different. sometimes art turns up where you least expect
it.

last, we've been thinking about ways to help people filter RAW so they get more
of what they're interested in and less of the rest. you'd go to the web site
and configure your preferences, selecting the categories you want. you'd then
get a customized version of RAW. not sure if/when we'll get to this.
