Exploding Cinema/International Film Festival Rotterdam 1999

The Fourth Edition of Exploding Cinema in the International Film
Festival Rotterdam will take place from 27 january until 7 february
1999. Exploding Cinema is the program in which the Film Festival looks
at the future of cinema. As we line up to enter the next milennium,
cinema is being transformed by the digital era in a rapid way. At the
same time, cinema has become a universal language that influences visual
culture as a whole and is used in digital media and the fine arts as
well as in clubs and computergames. Exploding Cinema explores how the
style and grammar of cinema are being used and taken by filmmakers and
artist's from all corners of the art and media world. It explores all
those new forms of cinematography in other media and environments, and
looks into the future and it's effect on cinema as we know it. In its
next edition, Exploding Cinema will comprise the following three
sections:

1. Melting Media, music/media live events, installations, presentations

2. The Digital New Wave, a thematic film program

3. The Future of the Small Screen, a masterclass
