D.FILM DIGITAL FILM FESTIVAL
Traveling Festival
1999 Call For Entries
Abbie Hoffman once said that freedom of the press only applies to those
who can afford a printing press. Today anyone with a PC and a copy of
Microsoft Word has, in effect, a printing press on their desktop. This
same phenomenon is coming to the world of filmmaking as for the first
time in history extremely powerful, extremely high-quality filmmaking
tools become available on a mass level.
The D.FILM Digital Film Festival is a traveling showcase of films made
with this powerful new filmmaking technology. The goal of the festival
is both to entertain, by showing audiences the very best work done by
today's new breed of digital filmmakers, and to inspire, by actively
teaching them how they can do it themselves.
In it's first year D.FILM was presented in New York, San Francisco, San
Diego and London. Every show in every city was sold out. The first leg
of D.FILM's second season has included screenings at Stanford
University, the ZKM Center for Art and Media in Karlsruhe, Germany, at
the Digital Video Conference and Expo in Pasadena and in San Juan,
Puerto Rico.
CALL FOR ENTRIES
The D.FILM Digital Film Festival is seeking films made with computers
and other new forms of technology for it's 1999 series of shows. This
includes films created with digital/desktop video, computer animation,
digital cameras, non-linear editing and custom software.
As a direct result of their being shown in the first season of D.FILM,
films were picked up by MTV, Showtime and Saturday Night Live.
The festival accepts both shorts and feature length film and video.
We're looking for work which demonstrates innovative new uses of
technology. Although we show abstract work, we especially value pieces
which are able to strongly convey ideas or tell stories, pieces which
will entertain and inspire our audiences to create films themselves.
