About the Program
The School of Image Arts' new MFA Program in Documentary Media, will have its inaugural class in September 2007.
The focus of the MFA program is on producing non-fiction, narrative work in film, photography and new media. The core concept is documentary - the interdisciplinary nature of the program allows students to explore a variety of available options in terms of production and distribution, culminating in a single professional work, be it a film, book, exhibition, or online exploration of a subject.
All media production today is being redefined by new relationships to digital technology - and this is as true of documentary media as it is of anything else. Both film and photography have long-established connections to narrative non-fiction; the program strives to maintain these connections to tradition while encouraging innovative approaches to the making of documentaries. The MFA program is ideally situated to explore the relationship between existing documentary media forms and new, interactive and hybrid digital forms of storing and presenting visual information.
**We are especially interested in attracting applicants working with new technologies and media who are interested in exploring their practice as a new form of documentary.**
The Master of Fine Arts in Documentary Media is a full-time, two-year program that provides students with a solid basis for completing documentary work at a professional level.
