YCAM outline:
Yamaguchi Center for Arts and Media (YCAM) is a cultural complex which
opened in November 2003 with a performing theater, exhibition spaces and
mini-theater attached to the central municipal public library. This
shared platform for media technology has hosted theater and dance
performances, art exhibitions, film screenings, sound events, workshops,
and lectures. YCAM's greatest feature is that it not only introduces
existing internationally recognized art works, but also produces and
exhibits art works developed in residence. Already several artists have
produced art works of international reknown through collaborations with
YCAM's production section, the YCAM InterLab. Through the unique
programs of its education and outreach activities YCAM provides a place
to nurture the imaginative faculties and media literacy of Yamaguchi
citizens through engaging the thinking behind the art works and their
technologies. YCAM's objectives are to connect the Yamaguchi region to
the world, and via the key concepts of "Understanding Creativity",
"Creative Methodologies", and "Creative Environments", provide a place
