Assistant Professor Art and Technology/New Media/3-Dimensions
Five Colleges, Incorporated (Amherst College, Hampshire College, Mount Holyoke College, Smith College and the University of Massachusetts-Amherst) announces the creation of a full-time, continuing Assistant Professor position in Art and Technology to be shared between Hampshire College and Smith College. Hampshire College will serve as the home institution.
We seek a practicing artist whose work bridges arts and technology to teach in a three-dimensional medium utilizing both digital and analog methodologies. The artist will bring an approach to her/his exploration, creation, scholarship and teaching which will further collaboration between the arts and science programs of Hampshire and Smith Colleges and the Five Colleges in general. We encourage applications from studio artists working in sculpture, installation, design and/or new media, with strong technical skills who can teach a broad range of courses including 3-D digital design/animation. We especially encourage artists whose practice engages the structural, intellectual and aesthetic dimensions of form in interdisciplinary combinations of the arts and technology.
A terminal degree in art and technology or a related field is expected or significant experience exhibiting or publishing at the intersection of art and technology. College level teaching experience beyond teaching assistantship, preferred. Responsibilities will include teaching full time (2) courses each semester, either two at one institution or one course at each. Advising and supervision of student independent projects will also be expected. By arrangement, courses may be offered at other consortial institutions.
