Shoplifting 2 is a total conversion of the game Baldur’s Gate II. The idea is to reverse the rules so that you have to get the maximum amount of money with 2 premises: DON’T PRODUCE and DON’T WORK. When designing the game I was thinking in management games like The Sims or Civilization, and was looking for a sort of exact opposite, imagining what the rules of such a game would be. I was always fascinated by how, even in games set in a fantastic world the gameplay includes some aspects related to the ‘capitalist’ and consumer-fetishist management of resources. These are very interesting contradictions that I wanted to explore by drastically changing the scenario of the game (from the Forgotten Realms to a Shopping Centre).
