Marketing and Communications Manager

The Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center (EMPAC), founded by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, is a place and a program where the arts challenge and alter our technology, and where technology challenges and alters the arts.

EMPAC is a unique arts institution which draws strength from being part of a world class research university. The building of EMPAC is slated to open in the fall of 2008 with an opening festival that will showcase the exceptional nature of the facilities and the kind of innovative time-based performance, installation and video work that EMPAC was created to support.

EMPAC has an immediate opening on its team for a Marketing and Communications Manager, responsible for development and implementation of a comprehensive marketing, media and communications plan that assists EMPAC in promoting its program and initiatives. This position will cultivate relationships with community and campus public information sources to maximize community participation and awareness of EMPAC and its activities as well as develop and distribute press releases, articles, and other collateral materials. The Marketing and Communications Manager will report to the Director of EMPAC and the Vice President for Strategic Communications and External Relations.

Candidates are required to hold a Bachelor’s degree, have experience in writing and editing, 5 years of relevant experience in the media and marketing relations for the arts and a record of successful marketing, media and promotional campaigns. An understanding of and interest in contemporary and experimental time-based arts (theater, dance, music, installations and video production, etc.) as well as an understanding of media technology and technology research in the arts is strongly suggested.
