On Thursday, November 16, 2006, at an undisclosed location in New York City, Bi-FOLD 2 will bring two innovative voices of graffiti culture together to lecture and perform art influenced by the street.
This year’s Bi-FOLD will feature renowned artist, Speto, and the New York City based Graffiti Research Lab (G.R.L.). Speto, a.k.a. Paulo Cesar Silva, is a Brazilian graffiti artist who gained international fame from his partnership with Brazilian Lager, Brahma Beer. A pioneer of the Brazilian art scene, Speto’s vivid cartoon creations can be seen throughout the streets of Brazilian cities such as Sao Paulo and Rio De Janeiro. Ranging from explosively colorful to subdued and quiet, his work combines traditional and modern themes.
G.R.L. is a group dedicated to outfitting graffiti writers, artists, and protesters with the tools they need to reclaim the streets from corporate oppression. Describing themselves as “inhibitors,” their open source graffiti techniques, including LED technology and projections, are designed to evoke a technologically empowering mentality. Their revolutionary stylings will provide an interesting counterpoint to Speto’s classically cheery creations.
LVHRD’s Bi-FOLD 2 will be hosted by Jake Dobkin, publisher of Gothamist.com and Streetsy.com, and will take place somewhere in New York City. As is customary with all LVHRD events, the exact location will remain undisclosed until the day of the event and sent via SMS text message to all LVHRD members. A general admission fee will be charged for non-members who wish to attend, and tickets can be purchased through www.lvhrd.org. Membership is currently closed to the public, but inquiries may be directed to Chantal Strauss (chantal.strauss@lvhrd.com). All membership requests will be reviewed and decided on a case-by-case basis.
LVHRD’s Bi-FOLD series invites diverse individuals to present their work. Meant to supplement the Master-Disaster events, Bi-FOLD encourages discourse instead of dueling. This event is made possible through the support of Brahma Beer, who will supply complimentary beverages to all Bi-FOLD attendees.
