There have been a number of internet2 art related projects over the
years. Mostly in music and performance. I don't recall hearing about
anything truly spectacular yet.

Most of these projects have been between art and/or music departments
in separate universities. What would be cool would be to look into
art collaborations with NASA, The World Bank, NOAA, Census Bureau and
things like that.
I'd be perfectly willing to create a commissioned piece to be
streamed to the space station where it could be projected onto a wall
for astronaut's daily art-fix. Oh, I know, how about this: install a
floor on the space-station with a thick glass or plexiglass plate
covering like three or four LCD screens, lying under the plate, face
up. Then stream live video of a patch of grass from the earth and
have it show up on the LCD screens so that the astronauts get the
impression of walking through live earth-grass.
