June 12th, 2002 ARTSHIP Windows project, Broadway at 15th, Oakland
CATASTROPHE, CRISIS, AND OTHER FAMILY TRADITIONS
The ARTSHIP foundation (www.artship.org) in Oakland, CA is pleased to announce the opening for an exhibition of photography by Jessamyn Lovell (www.jessamynlovell.com) on June 14th, 5:30 to 7pm. Titled Catastrophe, Crisis, and Other Family Traditions, the show will run until the 22nd of July.
Lovell’s work, accumulated over the last five years, has been featured in galleries across the country and is being exhibited in preparation for the artist’s book assemblage. Her work touches on themes of family difficulties and conflict presented in a starkly realistic fashion that is as striking as it is revealing. Limited edition catalogs will be available at the opening, and the artist will be on hand to discuss her work.
Lovell, BFA Rochester Institute of Technology and MFA California College of Arts and Crafts has had work published in SF Camerawork’s Biannual Journal, has won an ASMP award, and has recently guest-lectured at campuses throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. Lovell is currently putting together a book of photographs and writing called Catastrophe, Crisis and other Family Traditions. The photographs exhibited at the Artship windows are from the book in progress. Lovell is also Curator and Project Coordinator of Girls in the Hall(www.girlsinthehall.org), a San Francisco area arts project for incarcerated young women.
The Artship Windows project is located in storefront windows on Broadway at 15th Street in Oakland, CA.
