Current Headlands Center for the Arts Artist in Residence Tommy Becker and Affiliate Artist Andrew Kleindolph explore so-called conventional behaviors, from general notions of conduct to our most basic interactions with machines. Both artists create work that challenges the way we understand a hybrid life where apparent behaviors and functional machines crossbreed with irreverent inclinations and dysfunctional devices.

Becker, who is currently exhibiting at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts' "Bay Area Now 4,", creates videos that combinine performance, sound, found objects, spoken word and costume design to create quirky vignettes in which individuals struggle to overcome ambiguous relationships and adverse scenarios. Becker has also exhibited and screened his work locally at Catherine Clark Gallery, Pacific Film Archive, Southern Exposure, SF, and most recently at White Columns, NY. Becker received his MFA in Film/Video/Performance from the California College of the Arts.

A simple encounter with current Affiliate Artist Kleindolph’s curious low-tech machine sculptures often requires unexpected interaction or frivolous knob turning that may result in seemingly trivial outcomes. Kleindolph exhibits nationally and throughout the Bay Area. He received his MFA from Mills College, Oakland, CA.

Salon Series events bring the public together with Headlands Center for the Arts' Artists in Residence, giving the artists an opportunity to share work in an informal, personal setting while giving visitors a chance to connect with the creative energy, spirit of exploration and the unique collaborations that are cultivated at Headlands.
