Year Zero One presents: the Splash Page Project
June/July 2005: KD Thornton
Fear [landscape] and Fear [portrait]
http://www.year01.com
Year Zero One has offered its splash page as an exhibition space for artists that operates on a bimonthly basis. For June/July, we are pleased to present - Fear [landscape] and Fear [portrait] by KD Thornton.
Fear submits 13 phrases [search terms] to Google news, and records the number of news stories [hits] for each term. Fear responds to the number of hits provided by Google by changing the opacity of graphics and the volume of sound. Search terms that return more results have brighter graphic symbols and their corresponding sounds are louder.
Fear was created specifically for the exhibition 'reasonable & senseless: a technical disaster' at the Surrey Art Gallery's Techlab, Surrey, BC, Canada
May 21-July 10, 2005.
The Splash Page Project launched on Feb. 1, 2002 with a piece by
net.artist Mouchette, and has included artists such as M.River and T.Whid Art Associates, Barbara McGill Balfour & Stephanie Shepherd, pavu.com, Trip Dixon, linkoln.net, Tiia Johansson, Valerie Lamontagne, Germaine Koh, Peter Horvath, Risa Horowitz, the asciipr0n collective, Emily Hermant, and Sally McKay. The Project is curated by Michelle Kasprzak. More information/project proposals: splashpage at year01.com
