CERTAIN WOMEN
By Bobby Abate & Peggy Ahwesh
75 min., 2004
Relentlessly 3rd person even when most iconic, and espe=
cially
in closeup, Certain Women’s exquisite composition=
s frame
a melodrama without romance or redemption to achieve a =
stirring
pathos. Its performers, decaying diners and cheap hotel=
s typecast
for ‘50s resonance against a contemporary surface=
of
brightly metallic color, Certain Women bluntly uncovers=
a
small town’s shameful secrets only to yield even =
greater
mystery in revealing its persons. Somehow cathartic and=
open-ended
at once, its grimy brushstrokes paint an image of heroi=
c endurance,
a story of women’s bodies at the mercy of minds t=
hat
have too much fun just sitting around thinking. - Spenc=

THIS LAND
IS YOUR LAND
By Lori Cheatle & Daisy Wright
80 min., 2004
THIS LAND IS YOUR LAND shows that every person can make=
a
difference, even when pitted against the enormous power=
of
big business. This funny and moving documentary criss-c=
rosses
the nation, interviewing experts and individuals about =
corporate
influence on American life, hears how people across the=
country
feel their own lives have been affected, and looks at s=
ome
of the brave, compelling and sometime hilarious ways in=
which
individuals and communities are reacting.

prayingproject gives a stage and voice to spirituality =
as
a form of cultural expression.
Exit Art is exploring spiritual necessity with this pro=
ject.
Prayer is an action with purpose, an intimate expressio=
n that
is beneficial and constructive. Praying is maybe the mo=
st
intimate and profound freedom of expression, a personal=
initiative
with reason and purpose, a way to have a private experi=
ence
that can also be collective. Praying is a way to reach =
our
own divinity, a performance in our lives that we are tr=
anslating
into a performance of art
