I'm a researcher in the UK moving to Tokyo in September to carry out ethnographic fieldwork looking into the emergence of artists' collectives in Tokyo as a lens to examine aspects of Japanese identity, concepts of the creative process and the shaping of a city through artistic practice.

I wanted to ask the forum if anyone knows whether there is an area in Tokyo currently synonymous for emergent art activity (such as Soho in NYC or Hoxton in London)which is feeding the rental galleries of Ginza?

Also, any artists currently working in Tokyo (any nationality) or suggestions for those who may be interested in helping with the research please get in touch.
