SIGNAGE FOR THE INVISIBLE

How do you make signage for the invisible? Mobile computer
technologies increasingly effect our sense of space and delineate
the landscape via signal availability, locative media and information,
none of which we can actually see. How do we know what is there if
we cannot use our eyes?

Gomes' recent chalk drawings are imagined urban augmentations,
stemming from existing physical geometries, and are a temporary
visualisation of invisible signals. This lecture will discuss recent
work and ideas in relation to film, architecture and technologies.
What You See Is Not What You Get.

Pete Gomes' work spans and fuses cinema, architecture and
technology. His web site www.mutantfilm.com collates his diverse
output. Recent collaborators include composers Michael Nyman
and Jocelyn Pook, choreographer Shobana Jeyasingh, and the
seminal band Throbbing Gristle.

He has recently shown work in the UK at Tate Modern, Whitechapel,
Gimpel Fils, Architectural Association, South Bank, ICA, and at the
Stedelijk Museum and galleries and festivals internationally.
