"BELLEVILLE RELOADED", a non sense re-reading of one of the best cartoons I
have seen lately: "The Triplets of Belleville". There you also will meet a
link for the official site of this surprising animation movie:
"When her grandson is kidnapped during the Tour de France, Madame Souza and
her beloved pooch Bruno team up with the Belleville Sisters–an aged
song-and-dance team from the days of Fred Astaire–to rescue him…"
You also can watch two other re-readings of two great films: "And the Ship Sails On" (Frederico Fellini, Italy, 1983) and "Central Station" (Walter Salles, Brazil, 1998) . In each re-reading you also
will meet interesting links about the film or about the director.
"AND THE SHIP SAILS ON"
Set in 1914, a luxury liner, occupied by various statesmen, aristocrats and members of the opera world, is bound for a remote island where the ashes of the world's greatest soprano are to scattered.
Keiwords: funeral, opera, refugee, sea, ship, surreal.
CENTRAL STATION:
This film centers on a young boy whose mother is killed in front of Rio de Janeiro's Central Station. Homeless and with nowhere to turn, he is reluctantly befriended by a lonely and cynical woman. Resisting her initial impulse to make a quick profit off the child, she commits to returning him to his father in Brazil's remote Northeast. It is an emotive journey of a former school teacher, who write letters for illiterate people, and a young boy.
Keiwords: Brazilian culture, poetry

"Mejor Vida Corporation" by Minerva Cuevas (Mexico):
"A critique to consumption society, political clienteles and irrational
consumption of capitalist societies. MVC is a ghost company headquartered on Torre Latinoamericana, a well-known skyscraper in downtown Mexico City. Its key strategy is to break, usually by fraudulent means, the golden rules of capitalism. For instance, the company sells on its website bar code tags with lower prices for previously selected products and fake credentials that allow the purchase of cheaper air tickets."
"F5, Reload Celeida Tostes" by Regina Celia Pinto (Brazil):
A homage to this wonderful Brazilian Artist. A pixel work made of clay.
"Opus Corpus, Anthropology of Corporeal Appearances" by Stephane Malisse (Brazil).
Opus: Opening corporal orifices connected to the body, you can penetrate into a well-experienced human body. Entering the Opus Corpus, the Mundus Corpus appears and the world is seen as a crowd of body topics, as a proliferation of body anthropologic representations.
Corpus: Multitimidia Corpus of Anthropology of the Corporal Appearances. The Opus Corpus visits all the body regions one after another. Opening new ways of seeing the body, the Opus Corpus is a clinic watcher of the visual and cultural body states, navigating into texts, sounds, and images inside this mysterious organ.

BIO ART: (September).
"Move 36" by Eduardo Kac (Brazil):
"MOVE 36 investigates the shifting boundaries among humans, non-humans, and machines. Inspired by the computer that beat chess champion Gary Kasparov in 1997, the piece is constructed of a large chess board made of earth (dark squares) and sand (light squares). The only piece on the board is a plant, which has been genetically engineered by the artist for this project. This plant uses basic ASCII computer text to translate the Descartes statement "Cogito Ergo Sum" into genetic code. Exploring both the foundations of rationalist philosophy and new frontiers in artificial intelligence, MOVE 36
includes video projections of a chess game played by invisible opponents." Amazing is not it?
"Extra Ear 1/4 scale" by Stelarc and The Tissue Culture & Art Project
(Australia)
"Extra Ear 1/4 Scale is about two collaborative concerns. The project
represents a recognisable human part. However, it is being presented as
partial life and brings into question the notions of the wholeness of the body. It is also confronts broader cultural perceptions of 'life' given our increasing ability to manipulate living systems. TC&A are dealing with the ethical and perceptual issues stemming from the realization that living tissue can be sustained, grown, and is able to function outside the body. Stelarc, ultimately, is concerned with the attachment of the ear to the body as a soft prosthesis. Extra Ear 1/4 Scale is partial life form - partly constructed and partly grown - waiting to become a soft prosthesis."
