This might say more about my psychology than the
zeitgeist but not having previously heard of Bas Jan
Ader & clicking on the third link down I almost
immediately assumed that this was some kind of
conceptualist hoax - there was something almost too
perfect about the images -especially the "in search of
the miraculous" still.
SO I googled to check & of course I was wrong.
My reaction wasn't particularly a critical one, it's
not that I disliked the work - on the contrary it
looks rather wonderful -especially the two "falling"
pieces.
But there's something about it and something about
these times that still enables me to half believe it's
a hoax and I find I can switch at will from one
position to the other, rather like observing
Wittgenstein's duck-rabbit.
