QUI. New release
Development, projects, and thought of the new generation of Italian critics and curators

Saturday, June 19 and Sunday, June 20, 2004, GAMeC - Galleria d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea of Bergamo will host the event ''Qui. New release - Development, projects, and thought of the new generation of Italian critics and curators'': the first forum organized to give young Italian curators a chance to meet and discuss the present and future.

The idea of transforming ''Qui'' this year into a conference dedicated to young Italian curators emerged from a discussion between Giacinto Di Pietrantonio (the Director of GAMeC) the founders of UnDo.Net (online network of contemporary culture) and the young critics belonging to the Synapser group. Giacinto Di Pietrantonio decided to commission organization of the event by Synapser, which prepared its program.

Synapser is a networking project conceived by UnDo.Net to create new operating synergies and new possibilities for work by young Italian curators. The following individuals collaborate on the project ''Qui. New release'': Katia Anguelova, Laura Barreca, Marco Izzolino, Luigi Negro, Alessandra Poggianti, Angela Serino and Elvira Vannini.

''Qui. New release'' will unfold non-stop over two days (Saturday, June 19, and Sunday, June 20 from 10:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.) and involve over forty young curators from all over Italy.

''Qui. New release'' aims to create a situation that will catalyze the energies and experiences of the emerging generation of Italian curators, in order to take the bearings of opinions, perspectives, problems, and creativity, develop an analysis of possible approaches to work and offer opportunities for growth through the exchange, connection, and presentation of ideas that can be confirmed by the audience. The program of speakers will provide ample opportunities for discussion with all the participants and thus facilitate a stimulating, constructive, amusing and in-depth debate.

The young curators who have been invited boast diverse backgrounds and experiences: master's degrees, internships, collaboration with journals, affiliation with the art "system," and also experience with public or private exhibitions in Italy and abroad. Their differences and affinities will be compared and contrasted during the course of the conference. Synapser sent each participant a list of questions in order to focus their attention on certain issues of particular urgency that regard the figure of the curator, thereby orienting the presentations to be made at the GAMeC and stimulating further questions.

On occasion of ''Qui. New release'' Synapser will present an installation (composed by wallpaper and a selection of artists' videos) containing commentary, outlines, interviews, and works. This diverse material was collected and accumulated over the past several months of collective work, stimulated by the opportunities (including organization of Qui. New release), but also the workshop-in-progress dimension that characterizes Synapser. Language, the impossibility of communicating, or the desire to do so in the most diverse ways gave life to narrations, dynamics of encounter and relation from which were developed common or contrasting views, impulses, and participation by artists and curators as if they were on parallel tracks running through the creative process.

UnDo.Net is a creative group comprised of contemporary artists, designers, and Web experts. It is a public art project and a community that has been present on the Internet since 1995, linking opinion leaders and workers in the culture sector, engaging the participation of a vast and active community in the direct experience of creative development, making acquaintances, and finding constantly updated information on the contemporary culture scene.
The aim of the research is to create new ways of making and enjoying art, proposing innovative solutions, interaction, and detailed information.

Saturday, June 19 and Sunday, June 20, 2004. Two days of encounters and dialogue with over forty presentations by young Italian curators. From 10:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
