MOBILE HUDDERSFIELD - SURFACE PATTERNS Are you on the map?
>From 1st July04 - 1st July July05 SURFACE PATTERNS gives free* access to the hidden histories of 12 sites across Huddersfield. This service is available 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Surface Patterns aims to inspire people who live, work and visit Huddersfield to learn about local heritage via their mobile phone and contribute to the evolve memory archive as text or audio files.Surface Patterns document and make accessible information about significant locations across Huddersfield. SP is an evolving archive of local history that uses mobile phone technologies to celebrate community life through the ages. By texting each key number below, mobile phone users can access text and sound files which reveal how a series of site have transformed over time. Recordings by people who have marked the changes over the last 50 years reflect on the town's development since the Industrial Revolution. SURFACE PATTERNS is a living archive will evolve as text and audio contributions are added to the archive. The full archive along with all selected contribution will feature on www.surfacepatterns.co.uk and you will be given a chance to add you own significant sites. Maybe where you first met your partner or your favourite place to sit - no record is too personal as it all goes towards building a virtual map of people with a connection to Huddersfield past and present. Join us between 12.00 - 3.00 on Saturday July 10 to find out more about the project and for 3 guided tours led by local historians and introduced by Jen Southern, creator of a specially commissioned new media installation SURFACE PATTERNS: Audio Tours.
