Turbulence Artists' Studios: "{matrix}" by M. Takeo Magruder
http://turbulence.org/studios/takeo
With {matrix} M. Takeo Magruder has created a series of audio/visual
"information" sculptures by extracting and manipulating small data
strings from news media. {matrix} reflects upon society's technological
dependence in this age of media saturation and information overload.
Each work in the series was created from a single news item parsed from
the BBC International web site on January 8, 2004. Three thousand bits
of text, image, and sound were sampled to generate each sculptural form.
Although the original audio/visual entities are unintelligible, it is
possible to reverse engineer the works and extract the 3000 bit elements
in a lossless manner.
