Sonneratia is Youth Art Camp programme being held to encourage and promote Malaysian Youth Artist to discover themselves as well as the environment and the technology in the ever evolving art scene. 25 youths was selected after a screening session and was brought into a mangrove forest for a whole week of exploration. It is a programme based upon 3 aspects:
Spiritual Strength: as an additive to the ecstatic statements. Also to strengthen the base of spiritual truth and understanding, to enhance the co-operation between inter religions and to have a development in intellectual structure, this includes understanding technology, culture, nature, soul and spirit and its unity.
Holistic Model: Integrated, divided and open ended, based upon dialogue, discussion, multi disciplinary, adaptation.
Proactive Model: based upon materials, process and skills of time and future based media. Proactive method in approaching new emerged technologies, ideas and development. Also the understanding of history.
The camp was held at Taman Alam,Kuala Selangor, Selangor, Malaysia from 12 - 17 April 2003 and now the works of the participants are being exhibited.
