Language is the image section comprising almost half of the publication. This section is open to

Photographers, Writers, Fashion/Style, Graphic Artists/Illustrators/Curators can submit proposals
of original articles/essays, fashion stories or a curated visual project for the following sections: Opaque
Jargon, Lessons In DIY, Opinions, Uniforme Publique, Repellent Sounds (read section descriptions below)

Repellent Projects is producing an original, collaborative sound and visual project. We are currently seeking VJs, Motion Graphics Artists, & Musicians (electronic, acoustic, vocal, spoken word) to participate in this artwork, which will be developed and performed in a live format (in NYC and beyond) later this fall. If you are interested in software, new media, video and sound and willing to work collaboratively, contact us.

1. Language : a series compiled from variant image sources to create one collective visual narrative
Who?
Photographers, Video Artists, Snap Shot Addicts, Anyone Who Wants To
How?
_Submit a series of 5 – 10 images from a photo series with your own clearly defined theme/subject
_Submit images that that fit "Language #3 Suggested Themes" as listed below
_Submit single images that can be included in the archive and used at any point in time (open submissions)
_Make an appointment with editor for portfolio review (NYC only)
Language #3 Suggested Themes:
_Recorded motion/time sequences
_Architecture (public & private space)

_Modules

Format:
Photographs/Video stills - hardcopies or digital files (NO JPEGS)
2. Opaque Jargon: roughly translates as muddled messages
Who?
Curators, various artists depending on the medium
How?
_Sign up as a participating artist
_Submit proposal for an original Repellent GROUP project conceived specifically for the PRINT MEDIUM.
Should be focused on a single subject, theme, aesthetic, or concept. Past sections have covered literature,
graphic design, illustrations and posters.
Format:
_Submit a proposal and synopsis of concept. Include execution steps, time frame, project materials and
production costs (if any). 10 - 16 pages available.
3. Lessons In DIY: Creators relay the process of producing a project giving details of experience from conceptualization to realization
Who?
Anyone whoever realized an independent project
How?
Submit a proposal and writing sample. Past essays have been on organizing an art show, running a punk
club night and being in a band.
Format?
_Essay; Short (1000 words); Long (1700 – 2000 words)
4. Opinions: essays about political, social or cultural topics
Who?
theorists, culture critics, academics, writers, experts
How?
Send in a proposal and a recent writing sample
Format?
_Essay; Short (700 words); Long (1100 - 1400 words)
5. Uniforme Publique: fashion, stylism, beauty, aesthetics, anthropology
Who?
Clothing designers, stylists, make-up artists, hair stylists, personalities
How?
_Inform us of your interest in participating in a fashion story
_Send image samples/weblinks of your work
_Offer your designs, styling, make-up, hair styling skills to be included in a fashion related story
Format?
_Fashion Stories: Submit a proposal and synopsis of concept. Include possible participants or members of
crew, execution steps, time frame, project materials and production costs (if any). 6 pages available.
6. Repellent Sounds: music reviews, label profiles, music related articles/essays

Minimum size/Minimum Resolution: 4" X 6"/600 DPI
Maximum Size/Maximum Resolution: 8.5" X 11"/300 DPI
Artwork should be submitted on 100mb MAC compatible zip disks or CDs
