I'm not sure how this piece illuminates anything. To be sure Berlusconi is a right wing coporate boot boy but a fascist in the technical sense of the term? (and precision *does* matter here). No. Schroeder is a right wing social democrat and clearly not a friend of the working class ( although he does have the merit of having infuriated Bush ) but people like Schroeder were packed off to concentration camps almost immediately after Hitler's accession to power. I'm not normally a proponent of the political deconstruction of pieces but this seems to me to be a piece of political work or nothing and its politics are vague and confusing. Fascism *is* unfortunately a threat once more and we can't afford to be complacent but neither can we afford to muddy the waters. michael — Stephan Hausmeister <stephan@angelus.demon.co.uk> wrote: > > http://www.berlusmuscolinischroeder.fsnet.co.uk > + ti esrever dna ti pilf nwod gniht ym tup > -> post: list@rhizome.org > -> questions: info@rhizome.org > -> subscribe/unsubscribe: > http://rhizome.org/preferences/subscribe.rhiz > -> give: http://rhizome.org/support > + > Subscribers to Rhizome are subject to the terms set > out in the > Membership Agreement available online at http://rhizome.org/info/29.php

If this piece is comparing B+S to M+H then yeah, I don't know what they have in common other than currently leading the nations that M+H used to run. This is totally z-grade political commentary and I am surprised you even bothered to comment on it. I've seen it said that allusions to Hitler *always* cheapen political discourse, and that is entirely what this "piece" (I would hesitate to call it that) is: cheap.

I'm not sure how this piece illuminates anything.
To be sure Berlusconi is a right wing coporate boot
boy
but a fascist in the technical sense of the term?
(and precision *does* matter here). No.
Schroeder is a right wing social democrat and clearly
not a friend of the working class ( although he does
have the merit of having infuriated Bush )
but people like Schroeder were packed off to
concentration camps almost immediately after Hitler's
accession to power.
I'm not normally a proponent of the political
deconstruction of pieces but this seems to me to be a
piece of political work or nothing and its politics
are vague and confusing.
Fascism *is* unfortunately a threat once more and we
can't afford to be complacent but neither can we
afford to muddy the waters.
