Tuesday June 17, 20.30 hrs. Smart Project Space presents: SOUND PERFORMANCES

A monthly series in which the boundaries between music and art will be expl=
ored. Organized in collaboration with Stichting Mixer.

apestaartje : a label, a collective, a symbol used to specify a location
apestaartje, currently based in New York, was founded in Chicago in 1998 a=
s a media arts collective and as a record label to distribute the audio wor=
ks of the collective. apestaartje is dedicated to exploring new technologi=
es and techniques as well as expanding on many traditions from the past. F=
our performers involved with apestaartje will give four concerts on this ev=
ening.

Anderegg is one of the founding members of the apestaartje collective. His =
work has been described as "an ever-shifting composition of nervous tremble=
s, ticks and spasms gently coaxed from acoustic instruments, field recordin=
gs and all things electronic, that is then obsessively obscured as if benea=
th a fluttering veil that allows only brief flashes of detail while careful=
ly filtering the remainder". His second album 'anomia' has just been relea=
sed on April 15th 2003.

Aero is the solo project of apestaartje co-founder and label head Koen Holt=
kamp. His work has been described as "a complex synthetic recreation of so=
mething unspecifically organic, in other words, an assemblage of sound cap=
able of transforming the listener's conception of time and space." (AG, oth=
er music). His second album titled 'rises and falls' will be released on ap=
estaartje in July 2003.

Minamo, an electroacoustic quartet from Tokyo featuring several key players=
in the contemporary Japanese improvised music scene (Tetsuro Yasunaga, Kei=
ichi Sugimoto, Namiko Sasamotosk) sound is an organic blend of experimental=
electronics with instrumentation (guitar, synth, saxophone, computer etc) =
that evokes everything from classical minimalism to more serene folk stylin=
gs. Their third album titled 'beautiful' will be released on apestaartje o=
n April 15th 2003.

Collin Olan is a Chicago based sound artist, improviser and software engine=
er who recently released his debut 3" cd titled 'rec01' on apestaartje. BB=
C Music On-line stated, "Olan's contact mics unlock a sound world previousl=
y hidden from the ear, where tiny events are magnified to dramatic scale." =
He is currently working on a full length album to be released on apestaart=
je in late summer 2003.
