STAN BRAKHAGE MEMORIAL BENEFIT SCREENINGS AND SONIC YOUTH CONCERT at
Anthology Film Archives

Stan Brakhage, one of America's great film artists and a visionary film
pioneer, died on March 9, 2003. In honor of his memory, and to assist the
Brakhage family with medical costs, Anthology Film Archives is presenting a
series of benefit screenings. Accompanying these benefit screenings will be
a broad selection of Brakhage's work that composes part of our Essential
Cinema series.

SONIC YOUTH (Kim Gordon, Thurston Moore, Jim O'Rourke, Lee Ranaldo and Steve
Shelley) will perform in the Courthouse Theater at Anthology Film Archives
as a memorial tribute to Brakhage. All proceeds from this benefit concert
will be used to assist in the coverage of his substantial medical expenses.
This program will be an intimate, predominantly instrumental "chamber
concert," with an assortment of Brakhage films screened during the
performance.
All tickets will be $50 and can be purchased in advance at Anthology and at
Other Music (15 East 4th Street).
Doors will open at 8:00 and the performance will begin at 9:00.

In tribute to a great filmmaker and a dear friend, Anthology will present
the most recent and some of the final films of the life and career of Stan
Brakhage. These screenings will be the only presentation of these films in
New York. All proceeds from this weekend's screenings will go directly to
benefit Brakhage's family.
