COVER INTERVIEW WITH TAKESHI HAMADA

A graphic designer Takeshi Hamada made a cover design for
this issue. I guess not many people knows that it is Japanese
who makes this statelessness magazine "Tiger".
Not only a production of "Tiger", but also he creates works for
overseas magazines and his working place is now world
widely expanding. He participates in the web cinema "Trunk"
as an art director as well.

SOUND REPUBLIC VOL.4

The fourth round of "Sound Republic" was held at Think Zone
in Roppongi, Tokyo on the 1st of March under the theme
"collaboration with the electro media and creators from
various genres." There was a downpour on the event day but
the number of visitors reached to about 900 and they enjoyed
a mixed space of high quality sounds and motions.
Featuring artists are Funkstorung, Akufen, Unit9, Fixer, Klock,
Jonny Hardstaff and others.

DOT SOSO#12 FEAT. ATSUSHI TOYAMA

"Dot Soso" is a creative event where you can enjoy a creative
atmosphere with some nice food drinks. It is held once a
month and features interesting guests both from Japan and
abroad. A guest for "Dot Soso #12" was an illustrator Atsushi
Toyama from Tokyo. From illustrations for magazines, such
as "Casa Brutus" and "relax", producing home pages to
editorial designs (magazines, books etc.), he is making
various works. A collaboration with Ado Mizumori at "Versus
Exhibition 2001" (at Shibuya Parco) was very prosperous. He
must be a new and powerful illustrator you have to put your
keen eyes on.

TOKYO TDC AWARD 2003

It was last November when "Tokyo TDC Award" was held by
"Tokyo Typo Directors Club", which investigates the visual
expressions of letters. An exhibition, showcasing winning

PHILIP MORRIS ART AWARD 2002

"Philip Morris K.K. Award" is a project that digs up and
supports young and energetic Japanese artists, who will lead
an art scene in Japan. It has started since 1995 and its 4th
competition was held in 2001. The total number of
submissions reached to 1,095 works and 57 artists was
chosen as the final winners. At "Philip Morris K.K. Art Award"
held in last spring, 10 artists were selected from the final
list and they have just made their debut on the international
stage.

The world's biggest touring digital film festival "Resfest".
Entries to the world tour 2003 have just begun. The quality of

It might be your work that will be featured in the world tour
stage next time!

Come and have fun with us at Dot Soso. You can enjoy creative
collaborations by creators from various genres of art. The
next event will be held on Saturday the 22nd of March.

grew up in Sapporo, and working in Tokyo at the moment, she
made her debut in 2002 with a song "Kemuri iro no koibito
tachi" and the first album "360 degrees" will be released this
spring. She will present you a collaboration performance with
Sapporo-based-electronica musicians in this event for about

well. From Vancouver, where spring seems to be around the
corner, check a cute picture book "Windy" by local artists. A
cold wave hit New York City this winter. Feel this cold from a
report. Craig Au Yeung Ying Chai is a popular comic artist in
Hong Kong. His exhibition is now on at IdN gallery. A
contributor at Sapporo reports a local free paper for young
people "Micc".
