Harvestworks is pleased to present composer and new media artist Gary Lee Nelson. Gary Lee Nelson will present new media works, including interactive pieces using MAX/MSP/JITTER and a screening of several short digital videos: Death and Transfiguration, Hierarchy and Charitoo. All three works were written, directed and produced collaboratively by Christine Gorbach (painter) and Gary Lee Nelson (composer).

Gorbach and Nelson began collaborating on art/music projects in 1998. These videos are the most recent manifestation of what will be a long term collaborative relationship. Death and Transfiguration is loosely based on the orchestral tone poem of the same name by Richard Strauss. Like Strauss, the artists hold the hope of transfiguration from winter to spring, from turmoil to calm and from death to rebirth. The final moment of the piece symbolizes this hope. The subtext of Hierarchy is "deconstruction"; this video explores techniques by which new art is created by recomposing older work
