"[Even if] bred as humans, by humans, and among humans, humans will grow as beasts."
–Sai Baba
_Animal_part of man…that part of man that distinguishes him from the animals, ie the drive to escape himself, is perhaps masked in self-assertion?

Because existence's premise is _action_?

Is there worldly action which does not simultaneously destroy and create?

If so, what has self-assertion "created"?
There does not appear to be any _being_ left beneath the phenom.
Rather, what is popularly called "self-assertion" seems to be rather an insertion into different _roles_, a further emptying of the self.

But perhaps I am limited in analyzing this across a temporal stratum.
