For one day only, New Yorkers will have the opportunity to
experience a sound installation and hear selected Marfa
recordings by Stephen Vitiello.

Vitiello, who spent several weeks out at the Chinati Foundation
in Marfa, Texas, recorded these sounds in the fall of 2002, and
presents altered versions of them for the first time in New York
City at apex. A listening table will accompany a sound installa-
tion which had its origin in contact microphones attached to a
glider plane that soared over the Texan desert, at times in
pouring rain.

Currently a participant in the Space Program of the Marie
Sharpe Walsh Foundation, Vitiello recorded these sounds in
preparation of a performance at the Marfa Theater, in
cooperation with the Chinati Foundation.
