CLOSING EXHIBITION & RECEPTION
POWRPLNT at HUNTER EAST HARLEM GALLERY
(New York, NY—September 3, 2015) Hunter East Harlem Gallery at Hunter College is thrilled to present the closing-party for the educational art project, POWRPLNT East Harlem: Digital Art Collaboratory + Indoor Garden
POWRPLNT, is a pop-up digital art laboratory and workshop for teens founded by artist Angelina Dreem and stationed its 3rd incarnation of the project at Hunter College’s East Harlem Gallery this summer. The closing exhibition will present works made by teens this summer. The work includes 3D sculpture, printed zines, a mixtape of music produced, and video pieces.
The show will also feature the unveiling of 17-year-old artist, Terrell Davis’ TENSQUARED Gallery, a virtual 3D gallery that will be toured in the space using Oculus Rift. The online gallery will feature a more extensive view of teen’s work made throughout the 8 week installation.
The closing party will feature a DJ set by SHYBOI, 7PM opening of TENSQUARED Gallery and 8PM a live performance by the young and dynamic producer and video artist D Nilsz.
TENSQUARED Gallery Opening: 7PM: TENSQUARED Gallery, (formerly 100% Net Gallery), will open to the public and is a virtual space founded by 17-year old new-media artist Terrell Davis, focusing on artists using new media and digital platforms. Since it's inception in 2014, it has hosted 6 shows of over 30 artists from all over the world. Being that it is virtual, it is accessible to anyone all around the world at any time.
POWRPLNT provides free new media art classes for teens, workshops for adults and curates events that promote technology and art for all. POWRPLNT has been hosted at Stream Gallery in Bushwick, Red Bull Studios in Chelsea and this concludes its third installation at Hunter East Harlem Gallery. Their goal is to provide a public arts education program that expands creative engagement with technology.
About Hunter East Harlem Gallery: Hunter East Harlem is a multi-disciplinary space for art exhibitions and socially-minded projects. Located on the ground floor of Hunter College’s Silberman School of Social Work at 119th Street and 3rd Avenue, the gallery presents exhibitions and public events that aim to foster academic collaborations at Hunter College while addressing subjects relevant to the East Harlem community and greater New York City. The gallery specifically seeks to initiate partnerships with publicly oriented organizations and focuses on showcasing artists who are engaging in social practice, public interventions, community projects, and alternative forms of public art. All exhibitions and programs are free and open to the public.
