June Sound Off

Alwan for the Arts, 16 Beaver Street, 4th floor, New York, Manhattan, New York, 10004, US

AUDIENCE returns with the final event of our 2015 Sound Off concert series, connecting audiences with composers, musicians, artists and one another. Our event on Thursday, June 18, 2015 features sonic cinema from Lary 7, Joe Grimm, and Sarah Halpern. Lary 7 is a multimedia artist who coaxes profane, inscrutable sounds and images from various mysterious devices. His work mainly features vintage and forgotten electronic instruments and technologies. He is a co-founder of Plastickville Records and has been a major figure in the New York experimental underground music scene since 1970. Working with handmade electronics, guitar effect pedals, and an oscillator, Joe Grimm translates light from 16mm film projectors into sound, producing erratic flickers that correspond to ambient noise, collapsing the two into one experience. Sarah Halpern’s performances incorporate 16mm film, 35mm slides, music and performance.

Schedule of events:
Doors and reception: 7pm
Sarah Halpern: 8pm
Joe Grimm: 8:40pm
Lary 7: 9:20pm

Sound Off happens each year at Alwan for the Arts at 16 Beaver Street in Lower Manhattan. It takes place in a simple loft: no stage, no curtain, and little distance between audience and performer.
