AUDIENCE returns with our 2015 Sound Off concert series, connecting audiences with composers, musicians, artists and one another. Our event on Thursday, May 21, 2015 features phonographers Gill Arno and the Detroit Phonographers Union (Julia Yezbik and Benjamin Gaydos). The Detroit Phonographers Union explores and documents their sonic environment, capturing auditory phenomena otherwise lost in order to record and playback the particularity of places within new listening contexts. Gaydos and Yezbick will perform a live mix of field recordings from Detroit, presenting an assemblage of sonic images that together depict the aural landscape of a postindustrial city. Gill Arno's project "mpld" uses modified slide projectors in a live setting. Static images from found slides pulsate and fade one into another, while the projectors' mechanical sounds are tapped and processed to reveal their musical possibilities.
