Artist's Studios: Kanarinka

Kanarinka is intimately concerned with collage, juxtaposition, and sampling, particularly as they relate to interactive, visual environments. She's interested in WAYS we can sample or RULES we can make up about sampling raw data that will yield a dynamic and aesthetically coherent work of art. Kanarinka is interested building layers of "art modules" (individual artworks in themselves) that can yield a larger, more complex, emergent work of art.
Kanarinka is a new media artist and a java programmer. She began her artistic career collaging bits of magazines and words together and her career in technology at computer camp in 4th grade. She graduated from Tufts University in 1997 and set out to become a multimedia artist. She quickly learned that artists don't make any money so she began working as a web developer for an under-funded dot.com. While earning a measly salary, she learned the intricacies of mysterious acronyms like OOP, SQL, CGI, and JDBC, and her brain started morphing and flexing in engineer-like ways.
