fineArt in motion continues to travel the world (virtually)
——————————————————————-
From 25 Oct 2002, the fineArt forum (fAf) 15th Anniversary Travelling
Screening Program - 'fineArt in motion'
(http://www.fineartforum.org/screen) will be showcased on Singapore
One - Singapore's premier broadband network
(http://s-one.net.sg/faf2002). Each week, three directors and their
work will be showcased, putting Singapore on the global multimedia
map.
fAf's 15th Anniversary Screening Program, a special project curated
by local Nisar Keshvani features 14 (six from Singapore) works by
young and emerging artists from around the world. It premiered at
MAAP01 (Australia) and the Manila Digital Media Festival last year.
This year, it has travelled to over 10 locations in Asia, Australia,
Latin America and Europe.
"The 'fAf in motion' showcase on S-One is wonderful news. It gives
the program a virtual presence. Audience response internationally was
overwhelmingly positive. And now that, it has been seen at various
festivals including 'Art in General' in New York, 'trAce Incubation'
in UK, 'Videotage' Hong Kong, the 'Malaysian Video Awards' and
elsewhere, its timely for them to be shown online - for those who
missed it," said Keshvani, curator and fAf Editor-in-Chief.
Film-maker Cynthia Rubin (Recovered Affinities) says: " I feel very
satisfied to see this work continue to circulate. In the aftermath of
Sept. 11, I attended an open forum sponsored by the Muslim women of
the city in which I live. I am more convinced than ever before that
we need to learn to appreciate our cultural commonalities, even as
the differences continue to attract attention."
Adds Australian Tina Gonsalves, "It is always fantastic to be
involved with organisations that support new media. fAf is my
favourite resource I have used for many years, so I feel great about
it."
In an interview with Singapore radio station - Passion FM, Keshvani
explains: "The idea was to feature works of young and emerging film
makers - basically artists who haven't been exposed internationally.
It's also an effort on fAf's part to show that there is good (maybe
raw) works coming from South-east Asia, and there is great work
produced around the globe daily."
"Well - its an attempt to put these news on the world media art or
film map. Normally film makers have to enter different festivals
individually, and go through a selection process again and again. But
here, they are selected once and in one hit, they are exposed to
various other festivals. Their work is also shown to audiences, which
they normally wouldn't have access to."
The program's next stop is likely to be at the Inter-Society for
Electronic Art (ISEA) conference in Nagoya, Japan, and in Argentina
at, The Museum of Fine Arts' Second International Art Biennial-Buenos
Aires.
The S-One broadband portal (www.s-one.net.sg) is an online magazine
with multimedia content streamed online.. It is supported by the
government's Info-comm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA), with
AlternateTV.com as its official vendor contracted to create and
manage broadband content for the site.
fAf is the longest running arts magazine on the Internet, and this
new initiative sees the publication take a step towards showcasing
global film art and media trends. Launched in 1987, fAf is the
pioneer online news service dedicated to the provision of news and
information for the global arts and technology community. It aims to
keep its readers informed of achievements, developments and
opportunities relevant to the new media arts community. It can be
