Experimenta: Speak to Me, the 5th International Biennial of Media Art, is an invitation to consider what it means, at this time, to be together.
The ability to communicate with each other anywhere, all of the time - ultimate interconnectivity - has been around for some time. You have seen previously impermeable boundaries become redundant to an extent where relationships can now exist in a parallel universe, a second life.
As this capacity for connectedness is integrated more and more into you lives, it affects many of the significant, daily actions and the way you engage with places around you. In a rapidly changing technological field, how do you now consider these new relationships to the world, technology and each other? What does this connectedness offer you?
Featuring over 30 artworks from Australia and around the world, the exhibition includes a fascinating array of artworks from robots to screen-based works, Experimenta Commissions, Australian premiers, installation and interactive works, all of which are guaranteed to enlighten and inspire your students.
Be followed by The Acconci Robot who trails you unawares, have the energy passed between you and your students translated into sound and colour in Lights Contacts, discover new 3D animation techniques with Modern Vanitas, or be enthralled by one of the many screen-based or installation artworks which address our relationship to digital technology.
Education tours are available, conducted by RMIT Gallery or Experimenta staff members and are designed to introduce students to key artworks and themes in the exhibition.
