WHAT IS IT ?
TRANSFERT new york / bordeaux is curated by Alexandre Auche of ZOOBIZARRE
(Bordeaux, France) and Keiko Uenishi (aka o.blaat).
ZOOBIZARRE is a not-for-profit organization in Bordeaux (France) where its
director, Alexandre Auche curated numerous memorable music programs with
European and international artists since 1997. With the unique programming,
ZOOBIZARRE has become a magnet to many important international artists
touring Europe, and gave tremendous influence upon young artists in
Bordeaux.
Keiko Uenishi (o.blaat) is a Japanese-born artist and a resident in New
York, whose curatorial works have been rapidly recognized, especially
through a series of highly acclaimed event [electroluxe] at TONIC in New
York City.
As a part of VINEXPO AMERICAS 2002 exhibition in New York, Auche and
Uenishi co-curated diverse range of artists from France and New York.
The project will be presented through two nights (the 23rd and 24th of
October 2002) at TONIC, in the new cultural center, lower-eastside of
Manhattan (107 Norfolk Street). The festival will showcase; interlaced
images, DJs, installations; unique presentations of sound art performances;
concerts by ones of the top experimental sound artists in the world; and
new generation of groove artists who smash the best dance floor beats!
TRANSFERT new york / bordeaux, will give you an opportunity to sample the
fresh sounds from two countries, and complimentary Bordeaux wine and light
snacks offered by by CHAMBRE DE COMMERCE ET D'INDUSTRIE DE BORDEAUX (The
first 2 hours: 8-10 p.m.) on site.
A return manifestation is envisioned with a programmation of several
artists from New York, in June 2003, for "La fete du Fleuve" in Bordeaux.

INKORPORATION [video mix / djs] FRANCE
INKORPORATION is an innovator concept (installations and performances) base
on a mix of different vector of communication (audio sources, visual
sources and agency are complementary).
The installation will invest all of the Tonic Club for a night performance
mixing visual (video, super 8, internet, diapos) and music (electro,
breakbeat, rare groove, minimal techno…) dimensions.

STAMBA [desktop live set] FRANCE
Equipped with two computers and one deck, STAMBA, uncontested master of the
Bordeaux underground dancefloor, plays a powerful electro, mixing and
destroying the best of drum&bass, minimal techno and electro.
STAMBA has already presented his live in France, United States and Spain
and has played with Luke Slater, David Carreta, Kenny Larkin, Phunky Data…
BUG [luminocinetic performance] FRANCE
BUG is working on the liquid and light synthesis. HeOs the ideas man of an
original art installation : An odd machine create a laser ray which,
passing through a liquid drop, project chancies and abstracts images. These
images are moving on screen. The different actives liquids (water, vine, =
E)
are acting on images by their optical power. The experience evokes the used
substances artistic material.
LAURENT DAILLEAU [powerbook / theremin] FRANCE
LAURENT DAILLEAU, composer and improvisor from Bordeaux, has played several
time with Atau Tanaka. His live performance mix theremin instrument and
laptop creation. Laurent is permanent member of Art Zoyd ensemble. CD on
Sonoris label.
ATAU TANAKA [biomuse / powerbook] USA
This Japanese composer is working on his bodyOs mutation in a multimedia
instrument. Two computers are linked to TanakaOs arms with sensory captors
(the biomuse). Thanks to gestures adjusted as a martial art, he releases
sounds and creates also a new kind of show.
* Laurent Dailleau & Atau Tanaka's sound performance will be spacialized in
real-time with multi-channel speaker system by RICHARD BUGG
TOSHIO KAJIWARA + DJ OLIVE [turntables/electronics] NEW YORK

This collaboration unit between two performers has been hosting the series
of events entitled "phonomena" at subtonic for nearly 3 years. By
continuing to provide different situations involving
different sensibilities, "phonomena" has been contributing a unique
space/community to the most adventurous of sound artists in NYC area.
Both Kajiwara and Olive has been working in collaboration with Christian
Marclay, Raz Mesinai, Shelley Hirsch, to name a few.
Kajiwara has ongoing projects with Tim Barnes, Okkyung Lee, Marina
Rosenfeld, etc. DJ Olive has ongoing projects with Ikue Mori, Luc Ferrari,
Jim O'Rourke, Kim Gordon, Uri Caine, etc.
LORD OF SPEARS & WHITELEAF [earth, wind & fire /home-made circuits &

(Daniel De Rogatis and Barry Weisblat)
Daniel De Rogatis has claimed the planet Mercury as influencing factor at
this stage. Barry W. reveals the essence of planet Vulcan by channeling the
fourth ray energy (the moon).
KENTA NAGAI [fretless guitar / feedback / effects] NEW YORK
Since moving to New York in 1997, KENTA NAGAI has performed in numerous
venues, including many outdoor locations throughout the city. His work
strives to manipulate the relationship between timing and spatial
sensitivity. His technique extends and enhances the expressive range of the
guitar. In addition to solo performance, Nagai also works with many
dancers, actors and other musicians in multi-media projects. He is
currently developing a multi-channel composition / installation for
microphone feedback and live musical performance.
MIGUEL FRASCONI [glass instruments / toy pianos / electronics] + o.blaat
[laptop : audible environments] NEW YORK
MIGUEL FRASCONI is a composer and performer of new exploratory world music
who has worked with many renowned composers, including John Cage, Jon
Hassell, Trichy Sankaran, and James Tenney. He has created over two dozen
dance scores including a new work with choreographer Alonzo King for the
Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. Frasconi's early work includes nine
years as a founding member of THE GLASS ORCHESTRA, the internationally
acclaimed new music ensemble featuring all glass instruments. A new
recording of Frasconi's solo glass and ensemble music, "Song + Distance,"
is available on New Albion Records.
"Art of Disappearance" continues. - Sound artist, composer, [electroluxe]
event schemer, O.BLAAT (Keiko Uenishi) is known for creating various
interactive audio environments such as "beat piece", "audio coat check",
"fillip". All of which were resulted from her ceaseless pursuits of ways to
erase performer's presence and ultimately alter listening situation
altogether (or even a bit). Lately, she has been exploring powerbook's
mobility and its least distracting state of being. Her works can be heard
from her future solo release on Tellus (Harvestworks), and one track in
compilation album 'Floating Foundation Vol. 3' (Sub Rosa), both expected to
be out in late 2002.
geoffGDAM aka Lance Blisters [digital dj (re)mix] NEW YORK
After choir, bass, and guitar geoffGDAM (aka Lance Blisters) expanded to
digital music in the late 1990's while a university student in California.
In 1998 he became a developer of custom software for live music
performance, with which he has been working with ever since. After
relocating to NYC in 2000 geoffGDAM was a founder of Share, a weekly
open-mixer jam and forum for digital artists.

LARY 7 [multi-channel performance with leslie microphones, light sensors &
hand-made electronics] NEW YORK
LARY 7 currently working in a realm somewhere in between science & music
exploring the possibilities of electro-mechanical devices as relating to
history (mid century technology).
Recent sound installation work; pierogi 2000, the new museum, Williamsburg
bank exhibit, Girdle Factory Brooklyn, and Torino Biennial, Italy. Live
performance work recently includes: experiments w/ rotating speakers. and
light sensors in surround sound environment at Barbican theatre-London and
white columns and tonic in NYC.
MARINA ROSENFELD [turntables/electronics] NEW YORK
She composes music for turntables and other instruments. Recent
collaborative projects included the "Turntable Hell" tour, with the London
Musicians Collective, and a residence at Steim (Amsterdam) to create an
opera about fictional character "Momo".
CORY ARCANGEL [8bit mix] NEW YORK
Cory Arcangel is a computer artist who lives and works in Manhattan. His
work is concerned with technology's relationship to culture and the
creative process. It is often constructed using obsolete computers found at
thrift stores and garage sales.
In 1989, he founded "Insecticide," a Buffalo, New York-based rock group,
with sister Jamie. He is a member of the Earworm Record's (UK) recording
artists "the slowes," as well as a founding member of the "BEIGE"
Programming Ensemble, and "The 8-bit Construction Set" whose work has been
called "a testament to nerdiness" by The New York Times, and "genius" by
XLR8R magazine.

Tonic is located at 107 Norfolk Street between Delancey and Rivington
Streets in Manhattan's Lower East Side.
BY TRAIN
You can take the F train to Delancey Street or the J/M/Z trains to Essex
Street. Once you exit the station walk east (towards the Williamsburg
bridge) on Delancey Street and take your first left onto Norfolk. You will
see Tonic about half up the block on your left.
PARKING
Parking is sometimes available on Norfolk Street. There is also a municipal
parking garage right around the corner on Essex Street between Delancey and
Rivington.
